Tips For Preparation Of A Personal Funeral Service

By Paul Silva

Death is one of the harsh truths of our existence that we are never ready for. Conducting a service in memory of the deceased is a very old tradition that has undergone tremendous changes. A traditional funeral service was carried out in church, with some hymns, poems and a eulogy for the deceased. But, this trend is changing today, with more and more people wishing to go for a more personal funeral service for their loved one.

Conducting a funeral service right after the death of a loved one can be an extremely arduous task for any family. A general misconception that a funeral service is a legal requirement is far from truth as no law makes it compulsory to hold a funeral service. Secondly, majority of people think that it has to be held in a church, which again is not the case. It is crucial to realize that conventionally, such services were held in church but nowadays, with significance being attached to a personal touch, funeral services are being held more often in homes. Thirdly, such services do not mandate the involvement of any clergy or pastor or even a casket for that matter.

However, for any such personalized funeral service, you need to keep the deceased person in mind while making the preparations. The music to be played at the service should be soft as well as from the favourites of the departed. You could select from a live music band or going with pre recorded music.

There is also an increasing trend of displaying the personal things of the departed to display his or her true nature to the whole world. It is also crucial to give an address in the service in form of a speech, poem or a song in the memory of the departed by a close friend or family member.

Lastly, it is recommended to present the people assembled for the service with some souvenirs that help them keep the memories of the deceased alive for years. - 25503
